Show your prospective employer
you have the skills you need

What are your IT skills?

Many employers will ask the administrator to only pass them CVs that have the basic entry requirements. If you are applying for a job that requires you to use a computer, then you need to show that you can use Word, Excel etc.

  1. can you use Microsoft Word competently e.g. tabs, styles and paragraph formatting?
  2. can you use Excel to do basic sums, averages and subtotals?
  3. could you create a basic impressive presenation using PowerPoint?
  4. can you use Outlook properly including folders, rules and backup?

If you fail at this stage, they will probably not even look at your letter of application and you will be rejected.

Better IT skills than the next person?

Why should they select you for interview? If you have similar grades and experience as the other applicants, then your IT skills are an opportunity for you to stand out.

  1. can you do more than just state that you have good IT skills?
  2. can you demonstrate your good IT skills in your application?
  3. can you back it up in an interview?

IT skills are not difficult; many 9 year olds have them already. But if you don't have them you need to do something about it...
